Community, Celebration, and the Power of Showing Up

Sometimes the most meaningful moments in tech aren't at a keyboard - they're around a table with people who share your passion. 🙌🏼

Last night at the Singapore Computer Society Gala Dinner 2018 was one of those nights. Surrounded by the fun-loving ITYC members, great conversations, and even a photo opportunity with Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, I was reminded of something we often forget in our heads-down, ship-fast world.

Why showing up matters

We talk a lot about innovation, about disruption, about the next big thing. But community? That's the foundation everything else is built on.

The ITYC crew - Howie H S Lau, Kaylee Fung, Sherlyna Poh, Onnisa Onni, Simon Ma, Stella Tan, Emil Jingwei Tan, Matthew Cheah, Aow Jia Rong, and so many others - brought energy, laughter, and genuine connection to the evening. These are the people who make Singapore's tech ecosystem not just smart, but human.

The power of face time

In an industry that moves at light speed, it's easy to default to Slack threads and Zoom calls. But there's something irreplaceable about being in the same room, sharing a meal, celebrating together.

These moments build trust. They spark ideas. They remind us we're not just building technology - we're building a future together.

Gratitude and momentum

Nights like these fill the tank. They remind me why I love this work, and why the people matter just as much as the code.

To everyone who was there: thank you for the energy, the laughs, and the inspiration. Here's to more moments like these - and to the community that makes it all worthwhile. 🙏
