As we moved into the second half of 2023, I found myself in Bali at the UNESCO Inclusive Lifelong Learning Conference, surrounded by over 300 passionate individuals from 40 countries. Organized by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning and Indonesia's Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs (Prakerja), it was a gathering that lit up minds with transformational stories, innovative national initiatives, and a shared commitment to learning that continues throughout life. 🌐

The Women in Tech Workshop

I had the privilege of speaking at the Women in Tech Parallel Workshop, organized by UN Women. The panel brought together remarkable voices: Dian Siswarini, CEO of PT XL Axiata; Ms. Kanta Singh, Deputy Country Representative at UN Women India; and Ms. Tessa Wijaya, COO of Xendit. Ms. Dwi Faiz, Head of Programs at UN Women Indonesia, moderated with grace and insight.

The conversation centered on how emerging economic, technological, environmental, and social changes demand that we foster adaptation, creativity - and most importantly, learning that never stops.

The Bali Manifesto 🌟

The culminating moment of the conference was the unanimous adoption of the Bali Manifesto - a resolute commitment to facilitate comprehensive lifelong learning opportunities for all, especially the vulnerable and marginalized.

As UNESCO put it: 'Emerging economic, technological, environmental & social changes signal the need to foster adaptation, creativity & most importantly, learning that continues throughout life.'

This isn't just policy language. It's a recognition that in a world being reshaped by AI and automation, access to continuous learning is a matter of equity and dignity.

A Melting Pot of Experiences

Beyond the intellectual discourse, the event became a melting pot of diverse experiences and connections. I met fellow Singapore representatives - Alina from Temasek Foundation, Danni from Prison Fellowship International - and global stalwarts like Bader from the Ministry of Education in Oman, Robert from International College, Ana from Plan Netherlands, and Sam from Indonesia.

Every interaction enriched my worldview and reaffirmed my commitment to give back. These weren't just networking moments; they were the beginning of meaningful collaborations.

Translating Learning into Impact 💡

I'm deeply humbled by the opportunity to have been part of this gathering. The insights, the stories, the shared resolve - all of it has fueled my excitement to translate these learnings into positive impact on our global society.

Lifelong learning isn't a luxury. It's a necessity, a right, and a pathway to resilience in a rapidly changing world. When we commit to learning throughout life - and ensure that commitment reaches the most vulnerable - we're building a more inclusive, adaptive, and human-centered future.

With a heart full of gratitude, I'm looking forward to what comes next. 🙏
