Reconnecting in Person: Reflections from AWS Summit ASEAN
Four years later, our first physical summit brought together leaders shaping the future of tech in the region

Last week we hosted our first physical AWS Summit ASEAN since 2019. Four years is a long time - and coming together in person reminded me why these moments matter. 🙏
The energy was different. The conversations on net zero, AI strategy, and building diverse tech talent weren't just sessions; they were a reflection of where the region is heading.
I'm grateful to everyone who attended and to the AWS teams who made this summit possible.
Voices That Shaped the Day
Our speakers brought depth and urgency to the topics that matter most right now.
🔹 Ayush Sharma, CTO of a leading Singapore enterprise, shared how telco and IT sectors can accelerate decarbonization in his session 'Journey towards Net Zero.' The path to carbon neutrality isn't abstract - it's being built by leaders like Ayush, one architecture decision at a time.
🔹 Samuel Chu from SingLife, Lawrence Lim, and Lim Boon Ping from a leading Singapore enterprise explored AI/ML, analytics, and ML strategy. These aren't just buzzwords; they're the essential components of modern data-driven businesses.
Each session reminded me that transformation happens when technical excellence meets real-world urgency.
The Conversations That Stayed with Me
Beyond the sessions, the hallway conversations were where the real magic happened. ✨
I had the privilege of discussing female tech talent in the region with Laura, Amazon VP and Distinguished Engineer. We talked about what it takes to build pipelines, not just programs - sustainable pathways for women to lead in technology.
I also spent time with Rich Hua, AWS Head of EPIC leadership, exploring EQ and leadership. Technical skills open doors, but emotional intelligence keeps them open. That balance is something I think about often.
And reconnecting with AWS alumni reminded me how much our community extends beyond any single company or role. The relationships we build outlast the projects we ship.
Gratitude for the Community
Events like this don't happen without people who care deeply about bringing others together.
My heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended and shared their stories: Kee Yaw Yee, Ayush Sharma, Sander Veraar, Lawrence Lim, Lim Boon Ping, Leo Tay, Yean Ping Yar, Soon Dee Chua, Juat Ngoh Chia, Douglas Mun, Samuel Chu, Frank Feng Fei, Ravin Sachi, Julien Ng, Nithya Krishna, Chelsea Lim, Sid Bhandari, Joey Tan, Catherine K, Unni Pillai, Pedro Paez, Vikas Omer, Leo Da Silva, Eng-Hwa Tan, Chee Beng Ong, Jenny Loh, Wilkinson Chew, and Michael Evans.
You made the summit what it was.
What Comes Next
Four years taught us that connection can't be replaced by screens alone. But it also taught us resilience - the ability to keep learning, keep building, and keep showing up for one another.
The conversations we started last week are just the beginning. Let's continue to learn, grow, and make a positive impact together. 🚀
